Magpie

Where is my pyjama,
where’s my watch, and I can’t say,
why my wallet’s so much thinner than it was still yesterday.
Tell me: Where’s my favorite cup and where’s my coffie jar?
And what the heck is going on: I just can’t see my car...

I just can’t find those funny socks,
that shirt I wore in school.
And where are my sun glasses that make me look so cool?
Has some seen my fur lined boots that help me stand the cold?
And where’s my favorite lighter, you know the one that looks like gold?

Of course the answer’s clear to me,
no doubt what’s going on.
There’s just one explanation:
A thief is on the run.

A magpie is called ‘Elster’ when you’re in Germany.
In Holland they say ‘ekster’,
in France it’s simply ‘pie’.
‘Pega’ is Portuguese,
‘Szarka’ is Hungarian.
Italians call them ‘gazze’ and then they do them in.
Sparrows, owls and cuckoos they are nice but not my stick,
therte’s just one little birdie that can do the trick.
